The latest version of Android is set to be rolling out according to T-Mobile, who announced the upgrades to be available shortly as an over-the-air download. Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) has not yet confirmed the Android version update, but providers are already telling their users that it will be available very soon.
T-Mobile announced to users that as soon as today, users with the Nexus 5 smartphone and the v tablet will begin to see the Android 4.4.3 KitKat downloads on their devices. The phone update version will provide some bug fixes, but will mostly serve to deliver several security enhancements to their devices. The tablet update version will also fix certain bugs on the system and will also provide security enhancements.
Both updates are just 54MB downloads and as already mentioned, are available as over-the-air downloads. Once Google rolls the update out to users, people using Nexus devices as well as other Android- based devices should update their version to 4.4.3.
This news is fairly reminiscent of the incident a few months ago where Sprint announced a similar upgrade was imminent but yet the update never occurred. In that case, the change log for 4.4.3 was leaked to Sprint, but Google apparently wasn’t ready to roll the upgrade out to users.
While this update doesn’t serve to do anything major or flashy, users can certainly get excited for better security and patches to bugs that they’ve lived with for several months. Provided that Google is truly ready to roll the 4.4.3 upgrade out in the very near future, users can begin downloading this update, begin using it and identifying other needs that can be addressed in the next Android update.
