Problems with Windows Phone 8.1 and Facebook

Anyone using Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ:FB) through Windows Phone 8.0 and 8.1 are having a difficult time at the moment, if they have downloaded the latest update. The new version of Windows Phone 8.1 titled 8.1.6.0 is reportedly making Facebook crash frequently. The update has just been made available in the Windows Phone Store for download, and users have been reporting problems with it, ever since its release. Many users have been looking forward to this update for quite a while, and initially greeted its launch with great appreciation.

Since then, after experiencing frequent Facebook crashes post update, some users are less appreciative of the new version. The best advice at this time is that if you are currently operating a Windows Phone 8.1, and see that the update is waiting to download to your phone, from the Windows Phone Store, to hold off on authorizing the update, until this problem has been addressed. The same applies for anyone who is still using a Windows Phone 8.0 device. The update for that device is called 5.2.6.0, and is reportedly having the same issues as the 8.1.6.0 update, for Windows Phone 8.1.

Microsoft has not made any official announcement regarding the reported issues with this latest update, so it is not clear as to when they will issue a fix. The Windows Phone 8.1 and 8.0 updates are still available in the Windows Phone Store, but it is hoped that Microsoft will pull them, before too many other users get afflicted with the crash bug. Unfortunately for many users, their phone will have already automatically installed the relevant new update. If possible, disable the auto update feature for now.
