In a recent news report given by the Wall Street Journal, it was revealed that a possible partnership may be on the horizon, this time between Intel and Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG).
Google currently outsources its smartphone, the Nexus and the company is not famous for hardware development. It’s Google Glass did not become as popular as the company had hoped, and now, by bringing Intel on board, the company might be looking at a possible uplift of the device’s image. But will that be the case?
When Google Glass came out almost two years ago, it was all everyone and anyone talked about for days. It was the most innovative technological equipment people had seen or experienced in a very long time, the last such experience being the advent of the modern-day smartphone. Google Glass had a lot to promise and offer. The frame-like computer, when put on, displayed a small screen on the corner of the wearer’s vision. This screen acted like a normal screen, displaying the tasks the user was performing on the device. The device had a built-in Android software, a scaled-down version of it, which enabled the usage of video conferencing software such as Skype, and allowed users to browse the web through Wi-Fi.
Glass also had a camera imbedded into it, which allowed users to capture anything they saw by simply saying a designated vocal command to that effect. However, just as some analysts predicted, the device soon came under fire by all those who felt it allowed others to record their lives without their permission. As it becomes very easy to capture photos and videos of all that is around a Glass wearer, many people condoned the device, as they claimed it had caused a loss of their privacy. Many critics also criticized it for further disconnecting people from each other in social gatherings, boosting the negative effects smartphones already had on society. As wearing Google Glass became too big a burden to bear, people started shifting away from the Glass to their traditional smartphone for performing everyday operations.
Google Glass is an expensive piece of equipment, and with its associated issues and problems, it has lost its demand over the years. However, Intel can surely change that, with the help of its creative and low-powered technology. If Google is able to get Intel on board with the Google Glass, it would mean the Glass is on its way to becoming more powerful and diverse in operations. By allowing Intel to develop a special yet powerful chip for the Glass, Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) can focus on building a better software for it, which would allow users a better experience.
Even though this still won’t be able to eradicate the privacy concerns people have, but once Google Glass becomes better than it currently is, people would surely shift back to it. The world had trouble adjusting to the smartphone in the same manner, and now Glass is receiving the same kind of resistance. But it will soon move on, and Glass may become just as pervasively used technology as the smartphone, especially with Intel Inside.
