Kohlberg Kravis Roberts is an American global investment firm that focuses on leveraged buyouts and private equity. They are headquartered in New York. Well, recently it was announced that David C. Drummond, the chief legal officer of Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) and senior vice president for corporate development, will join K.K.R’s board of directors. It is not a secret that Drummond is one of several of Silicon Valley’s top legal professionals.
Drummond’s appointment was confirmed on Friday. His new role will allow him to sit on the conflicts committee. Out of nine directors at K.K.R; seven are independent. Henry R. Kravis and George R. Roberts, the firm’s co-founders are also co-chairman on the board of directors.
Drummond’s Google roots go deep. He was Larry Page and Sergey Brin’s first legal counsel. He helped to raise funding for Google in addition to incorporating the company. When Page and Brin hired Drummond, he was a partner in the corporate transactions group of the law firm Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. It’s hard to believe that was 16 years ago.
Other boards that have Drummond on their list include Rocket Lawyer and Uber. He also graduated from Stanford Law School. At K.K.R, he is on the firm’s managing partner board. This is the board that oversees the firm’s business dealings. This is due to the fact that K.K.R is considered a limited partnership. It appears that Google and Drummond are everywhere.
