It’s been almost a year since Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) came out with their opus Nexus 5. Since their debut Nexus phones have made a powerful impact on the market. Google has made a mark with its high specs and low cost mantra which is quite opposite to Apple Inc.’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) products which are relatively expensive.
We’re into the second half of 2014 and we’re yet to be informed about the release of the latest Nexus phone. Apple’s iPhone is possibly coming out in September along with a wearable gadget that will expand the line of categories for Apple. Google too must be aching to send its knight Nexus 6 into the market to offer a tough rivalry.
In terms of release date, Nexus 6 is expected to arrive around the same time when Nexus 5 came out last year – October or November. After Android KitKat which came out with Nexus 5 last year, it’s natural to think that Android L, which is the new operating system Google announced earlier this year, will power Nexus 6.
There were a few rumors that LG will be the producer of the Nexus phones for the third time in a row. Nexus 5 bore heavy resemblances to LG G2 and Nexus 6 was rumored to look like G3. However LG stated that it will not be on-board for producing the latest Nexus. It is likely that Motorola may be the hot pick to continue the Nexus lineage under Google’s umbrella.
There are conflicting rumors about the size of Nexus 6’s screen. Some tech bloggers, based on various leaks claimed that Google aims to tackle Apple Inc.’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Samsung by giving Nexus 6 a whopping 5.9 inches display. Other rumors state that Nexus may avoid any resemblance to the phablet outlook so it will persist with its 5 inch display.
2.6GHz quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor and 3GB of RAM will give a stiff competition to any smartphone out there and that is what, according to rumors, Nexus 6 will feature. The raise in power could be because of the magnitude of system power the phablets and iPhone usually carry. Google will certainly like to catch up on that with Nexus 6.
More rumors claim that Nexus 6 may make up for the mediocre 8mp camera offered by Nexus 5, which was the only disappointing factor in the smartphone. Nexus 6 will be equipped with a 12mp camera along with UHD video recording. It is believed that the camera will actually be 13mp with a 2.1mp rear camera.
HTC, Apple Inc., Samsung, all of them have ventured into biometric tech with the finger print sensor, so it’s natural to assume that Nexus 6 may also be equipped with this technology. Trusted sources claim that the smartphone will indeed have the biometric technology, guaranteeing exclusive use and privacy with no loopholes.
Nexus 6 is anticipated for many reasons. The public loves it because it’s relatively inexpensive to other high tech smart phones, Google loves it because it’s an instant money maker and the smart phone market loves it because it’s an edgy phone that keeps the trinity – the market, the company and the public – happy.
Both Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) and the public are ready for Nexus 6’s debut.
