Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ:FB) has just released Facebook for iOS 10.0. Included in the update is the test version of a new feature it hopes to roll out in the near future, called content cards. The content card test is only being rolled out to a few iOS users to start. The new cards will suggest contextual content designed to encourage users to surf further, after they have made a post. Furthermore, the cards have four main categories, each with their own color; green for content; red for places; yellow for photos; and blue for birthdays.
There is also an additional advertising revenue stream that could develop from the cards. Businesses could potentially pay a fee to have their link displayed as a ‘similar site’ where appropriate. Another feature of the update allows users to review a preview of their posts, and to remove any unwanted additions, such as extra links, added by Facebook. Users are also now able to create posts offline, in areas where there is a weak signal, which will automatically post as soon as connectivity is reestablished. The update also boosts the feed speed.
