Silicon Valley has been talking about the growing need of efficient and dependable robots that can perform various important tasks with accuracy. And it seems that this year will have something significant on the Robotics front.
According to John Leonard, MIT Mechanical Engineering Professor, 2015 will have something exciting for the people as far as Robotics is concerned and they should expect to hear something from Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) in that respect. Leonard revealed this in an interview with Bloomberg.
Google is known for being innovative and contemporary. The company keeps coming up with new and fresh ideas and does not hesitate to invest to bring these ideas to reality. Google has been actively working on various innovations for a while now; one such project that is underway is the development of driverless cars. Although electric cars are already creating a buzz in the auto industry but having a driverless car will surely be a game changer.
John Leonard believes that it will take up to a year’s time before Google can have a significant breakthrough in the Robotics Front because of the challenges that they have to face in space. Leonard said that in his opinion Silicon Valley is almost halfway through the decade of robotics. It has been five years since Google announced the self driving vehicles and the momentum is definitely there. Leonard’s optimism shows that 2015 will indeed be the year when people will hear something exceptional and concrete.
We all know, thanks to rumors and market buzz that Google has been active in its development of Robotics yet exact information about the project has remained a secret; it is not clear as to what kind of Robots the company is investing in. Google has acquired a number of Robotics companies, which include Boston Dynamics and Industrial Pacific. Although Google has been discreet in its stance, however that has not stopped people from speculating what Google has to offer.
Leonard said that according to speculations the Robots that are being developed could very well be for moving things around, which means robotics with ability to move things from one place to another.
To proceed ahead with its project, Google is now waiting to see whether the State of California will legalize driverless cars or not. Legalizing of the driverless cars will benefit the driverless technology to a great extent. Another point of interest in the same field is drones; Google wants to see whether regulators will give the use of drones a green signal or not.
As mentioned before Google has been working hard to progress in the field of Robotics for a while now and it is high time that the company sees some results. If Leonard’s speculations are true then 2015 will prove to be a breakthrough year for Google and there will be some significant progress that the company will witness towards the end of this year.
Google is not alone in its wait for the news. Analysts who have been following Google Inc.’s (NASDAQ:GOOGL) developments along with general public are all anxiously waiting for some encouraging updates. Time will tell how successful Google Inc. will be in developing the robots that are underway.
