Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) is well known as a company that functions on the internet. Surely, except for the operating systems developed by the company, no other product by Google runs offline. The biggest revenue generator for the company is its search engine services, which is directly related to its advertisement business which, in turn, translates into revenue for the company. The search engine service runs entirely on the internet, and those who don’t have access to the internet are automatically not able to use Google services.
This seems like incentive enough for the company to enter the mobile data services industry, to make it easier for people to access the internet and, hence, Google services. However, this is not the only reason Google wishes to expand its wings and enter the mobile data industry; according to sources, the internet giant has many other agendas on its mind with this move.
The mobile data service which Google plans to launch in the coming years, and which has already entered development stage, is codenamed Nova, according to multiple credible sources on the internet. Project Nova, according to experts, would not be a simple project, but will try to achieve a new direction, a new technological advance in order to provide people with a service that is unprecedented in the market.
However, Google is not taking as big a risk as it took with the development and launch of the Google Glass, a product which has now been taken back by Google due to structural issues that made it difficult for the product to enter the mainstream market, and hence made it difficult for Google to maintain the costs being incurred on the product. With Project Nova, it plans to launch a simple mobile data service for cell phones, which is not a new technological service at all.
But, there is something unique in the data service that Google plans to launch with Project Nova. According to sources, the company will launch the service exclusively for devices running the stock version of the Android OS, hence only the Nexus devices which sell under the Google brand name.
It is expected that, after the service is launched, Nexus phones will be equipped with a mobile data service right from the start, and all the Google services will be connected to the internet being provided by Google, according to a report, free of cost or bandwidth limitation. Also, for freestyle surfing, the data plans offered by Google would be much cheaper than those being offered by market competitors such as T-Mobile and Sprint.
With the increasingly connected Google services within the Android-running smartphones all over the US, it would mean a booming business for Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) itself, as more and more people would be connected to its services. The more people remain connected to Google services, the higher the ad revenue it will generate, and the better the business for the company would be. Also, the company would move one step closer to achieving its goal of bringing the world on to the internet, which, according to the company, is reason enough for the company to enter the mobile data service industry.
