With Android One, Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) is set to take over the smartphone business. Google unveiled three phones based on the android one technology in India, New Delhi. These smartphones are Spice Android One Dream UNO Mi-498, the Micromax Canvas A1 and the Karbonn Sparkle V.
Google is building its reputation as the boss that is nice to both the elite and proletariat. Android One technology is for those developing device makers who want to make reasonably good phones with a uniform technology and offer it at a low price. Google has presented such developers with its reference platform, Android One.
The phones have reasonably good and similar specifications: 1.3 Ghz quad-core processor, dual sim, 1GB ram and 4GB internal storage with a card slot for more capacity. The screen is quite large for low end phones: 4.5 inches which is more than enough, and a decent 5MP camera to keep the photo buffs happy.
With this move, Google Inc. has made it clear that it is determined to make its mark in the smartphone market. Approaching low end smartphone developers and giving them their technology means Google is expanding its reach and tapping all segments of the market.
The problem with new smartphone developers is that they often run outdated android versions on their phone, without any access to latest services and apps in Google’s playstore. With Android One, not only will these new handsets remain updated with the latest Google services, they will also be available for as low as $100. Such an offer is bound to bring them customers.
Going inexpensive has never been a problem for Google Inc.; it has done it in the past with Nexus phones. Nexus series can give competition to any smartphone in the market and ask the customers to pay way less than a few other big names.
These newly released Android One equipped handsets will come with two years of advance upgrades for which the user will not be charged at all. The Google Play store will already be installed; the 200MB data quota will not include the updates. These features are bound to make fortune for Indian developers.
What more can a customer want? Everything that needs to be in a phone to make it great will be available for less than 7 thousand Rupees (in India) through Android One.
Banking on this lucrative deal, other companies like Alcatel, HTC, Lenovo and a few more will join hands with Google to manufacture Android One phones. Google will also soon release the Android One technology in Indonesia, Malaysia later this year and will enter more countries by next year.
Right after a major hacking controversy, Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) has made a strong comeback with Android One – almost making a lobby entirely consisting of small end manufacturers. This will give them the boost it needs to shake off the negative publicity that the hacking incident created for the company. Not only will this move win over more customers, but it will also open up brilliant new prospects in the future.
